Peter Hatton

Peter graduated from the University of Southampton in 1997 with a degree in Physiotherapy.  He has been working in the field of sports medicine and rehabilitation for the last 10 years with a variety of sports clubs.  These include Warwickshire County Cricket Club (2003-), British American Racing (BAR) Formula 1 Team (2003), Birmingham Bullets Basketball Team (2002/3), Moseley Rugby Club (1998/9) as well as having a special interest in swimming and water polo related injuries.

Michael Gosling

Michael graduated from the University of Southampton in 1997 with an honours degree in Physiotherapy.  He worked in London for six years in the fields of orthopaedic and musculoskeletal medicine at The Royal Free NHS Teaching Trust and St Georges NHS Teaching Trust.  In 2003, he moved to Birmingham, working at The Priory Hospital and The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital as a Senior Physiotherapist.  At this time, he also began developing the Physiokinetic business with Peter Hatton.

Emma Startin


ADMINISTRATOR / RECEPTIONIST



Emma started at Physiokinetic in January 2008 after working for 7 years as a receptionist in a physiotherapy department in the NHS. Emma is likely to be your first point of contact as she is responsible for booking in appointments and accounts. The addition of Emma to our team has enabled our therapists to get on with what they do best – treating patients!

BACHELOR OF PHYSIOTHERAPY


NZ BATCHELOR OF HUMAN NUTRITION, NZ MCSP SRP



Rachael graduated from the University of Otago, New Zealand in 1997 going on to work with elite sportsmen and women in NZ rugby, netball and athletics.  As an international track athlete herself, she has gained an understanding of the specific injuries, training regimes and rehabilitation strategies of track and field athletes.  Whilst in England, she has worked at the National High Performance Centre based at Lilleshall , a number of hospitals and private practices around the Birmingham area and the English Institute of Sport at the Alexander Stadium, Birmingham.

Derek Kyte


BSC (HONS) PHYSIOTHERAPY MCSP SRP



Des graduated from the university of Bradford in 1996 with a BSc (hons) in Physiotherapy.  In recent years, he has worked as an Extended Scope Practitioner in the NHS.  This role involved prescribing investigations such as blood tests, x-ray, MRI, CT and Nerve Conduction Studies as well as referring patient’s for surgery, specialist’s opinions, physiotherapy and pain management programmes.  He is now working part time as a lecturer in Physiotherapy at Birmingham University and is also currently studying for an MSc in Physiotherapy.

David graduated from the University of Birmingham in 2002 with a BSc (hons) in Physiotherapy. He has previously worked as a physiotherapist for West Bromwich Albion FC and is currently employed as a Senior Physiotherapist locally in the NHS.

Gerhard Mostert


SENIOR PHYSIOTHERAPIST



Gerhard graduated from the University of Orange Free State in South Africa with a BSc in Physiotherapy in 1995. He moved to the UK in 1999 and was appointed head physiotherapist at Warwickshire County Cricket Club in 2001. He is a member of the Society of Orthopaedic Medicine and is currently studying for his diploma. Gerhard is only available from September to March due to his commitments with the cricket team.

Dr Mark Gillett


SPORT MEDICINE PHYSICIAN



Mark’s experience is extensive and diverse putting him at the pinnacle of his profession nationally. He works as a consultant in emergency medicine and at the English Institute of Sport in Birmingham. From October 2008 he will relinquish these roles to take up the role of first team doctor at a leading premiership football team. He is currently Chief Medical Officer for the British national basketball program in preparation for the 2012 Olympics. He has previously held the positions of Chief Medical Officer for the British University Sports Association (BUSA) and Medical Officer for the England Commonwealth Games Team. He has attended 4 World University Games and was Chief Medical Officer at the last two games. He is also a renowned lecturer on the sports medicine circuit in the UK.

Mark believes communication is key if our elite athletes are to receive the quality of clinical services they deserve: “we need a change in culture to enable medical staff to elicit potential sites of injury at the earliest opportunity and facilitate effective treatment”.


We at Physiokinetic know that we are lucky to have Mark working with us at The University of Birmingham to assess and treat our elite and amateur athletes as well as members of the public.
   

Tess Davis MSc (Hand Therapy)


DIP. COT; STATE REGISTERED CLINICAL SPECIALIST OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST



Tess gained her degree from The University of Exeter in 1990 and her Masters in Hand Therapy from The University of Derby in 2005.  She works as a Clinical specialist in Hand Therapy at university Hospital Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust in a department that specialises in the management of hand trauma.  Tess is a member of the British Association of Performing Arts Medicine (BAPAM) and The British Association of Hand Therapists (BAHT).  Tess can be contacted directly to book appointments on 07976 942027.
